While your past experiences may influence your tastes somewhat, I think you give it too much credit. You were raised in the midwest, do you favor country/western? Your parents played hard rock & hippie music. Head banger or flower child? Somehow, you've rejected these. I'm more inclined to believe you gravitate towards the clever & the witty. I think it's chemical. You have an affinity for or react to things that are counter to the mainstream.
