The previous version of WMP worked fine for me, but the last time an automatic update arrived, I downloaded it without really worrying too much. Unfortunately, doing so has caused the following error to plague me:

The file wmp.dll has a version number of 9.0.0.3008 where 9.0.0.2980 was expected.

Windows Media Player was not installed properly and must be reinstalled.

Do you want to install the Player from the Microsoft Web site?

Responding with a yes brings me to the download page, where I re-download the installer, run it, and bring WMP up again. It works the first time; every time after that, the error appears again. This sucks. What can I do to fix it?

Edit: Actually, I solved this problem. I'm pretty sure one of the comments to this post contains the solution I used.

Well, the only lilnk I found through Googling was the same Microsoft download I've been using all along. Maybe it'll work this time...?

Well, one of those two should work. I'll try that later and see what happens.

Are they really coming out with an Episode I remake? I saw something on a link on Jered's Deadjournal. The link to the closest artical is in a comment on my LJ.

Actually, I think I may have done that already. Not sure. In any case, the problem seems to have worked itself out, so I'm not gonna worry.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q822964 is the fix. Everyone else's suggestions were idiotic because they are idiots. People who like starwars are idiots. Bunch of freakin' idiots!!!

actually i've had enough problems with windows to make me think about smashing my box and going for a linux tutorial.

Actually, it's kind of funny because the Episode I we were talking about is totally unrelated to Star Wars. But yes, that's the solution. Thanks!
