I don't get it.

Angel's happy to play with hair ties, headphone cables, her favorite yellow string, paper bags, or shoes. She'll follow me into different rooms and find something to explore or climb on. Plus, she's happy just to sit on my lap and be petted.

Gus, meanwhile, just sits by the door and plaintively meows to be let out. There is no joy in his life, except at the thought of running down the stairs to the sidewalk and trying to chew on some grass. The guy must have some kind of addiction.

Maybe you should get him some indoor grass.

You forgot to add that when he is not let out, he just gives up on life and spreads out on the top of the loveseat, trying his hardest to suffocate himself.

I never considered that that might actually be suicidal behavior, but yeah, it makes sense, now.
